The General Capabilities Short Qualifications are based on the Australian Curriculum General Capabilities which are at the centre of the Years 9 to 12 Curriculum Framework.
The learnings embedded within the General Capabilities Short Qualifications draw from ‘real world’ situations or the student’s lived experiences, developing skills and capabilities they will need for the future.
Students will increase their understanding and aptitude in the areas of critical and creative thinking, personal and social capability, intercultural and ethical understanding.
TASC have provided Recognition of Formal Learning status for the six General Capabilities Short Qualifications for delivery in 2023.

Each General Capabilities Short Qualification is at a TASC complexity level 2 and, on successful completion, a student’s qualification will be recognised by TASC and allocated two TCE points.
Each of the General Capabilities Short Qualifications are delivered for a duration of 20 hours. Resources are available through the Department for Education, Children and Young People’s learning management tool, and can be delivered with teacher support via online, classroom or blended learning.
The Short Qualifications are for Years 11 and 12 students and are available to Department for Education, Children and Young People, Catholic Education Tasmania and Independent Schools Tasmania schools.
The Department for Education, Children and Young People is the provider of the General Capabilities Short Qualifications and maintains quality assurance, recording of overall assessments and issuing of certificates to each student who successfully completes one or more of the General Capabilities Short Qualifications.
